Clare Hughes is a late-diagnosed autistic professional photographer based in Sussex, England, working across contemporary photography and community engagement.
Clare works with individuals, organisations and brands to tell their stories in an inclusive and authentic voice.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROJECTS
CREATIVE COLLABORATION FOR POSITIVE CHANGE.
I collaborate with individuals, charities, and institutions to uncover historical narratives that connect with contemporary topics, particularly around motherhood and identity, health and wellbeing.
My projects challenge the traditional social documentary approach to photography by using archival records to uncover symmetries between past and present experiences.
This method helps organisations communicate difficult subject matter in a new, socially engaged way.

Grounded in the PhotoVoice methodology, my participatory arts workshops prioritise community, accessibility, and lived experience, culminating in public outcomes such as exhibitions, which give participants ownership and visibility.
Individuals can flourish in a participatory workshop by feeling empowered through creative activity in a psychologically safe space. When self-expression can sometimes be limited, a creative workshop can provide opportunities for alternative ways to communicate.
As an organisation you can use a creative workshop to break down barriers to understanding and improve empathy in an informal group setting. This is a proven method of driving positive change and producing creative outcomes that can benefit morale and support networks.
